The Distano TeamDr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole were born and raised in Kearny, NJ. Dr. Nicole graduated from Kearny High School in 2000. Throughout high school, Dr. Nicole was a gymnast and received her black belt in Michi Budo Ryu (a discipline of martial arts that encompasses karate, judo, and jiu-jitsu) from Kearny Martial Arts. Dr. Anthony graduated from Kearny High School in 1999. While attending Kearny High School, Dr. Anthony played football and wrestled. He was a two-time first team all county wrestler and a district 16 high school wrestling champion.

Dr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole met in Kearny high school in 1997 and have been together ever since. On June 23, 2006 they got married in Montego Bay. From 2002-2006 the doctors attended Life University in Marietta, Georgia. During that time, both doctors received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Master of Science in Sports Health Science with a concentration in sports injury management, and a Doctorate in chiropractic.

About Dr. Anthony Distano

Anthony DistanoDuring his final year as a chiropractic intern, Dr. Anthony’s research projects included a research review of the detrimental effects of abnormal curvatures in the cervical spine on the nervous system and surrounding soft tissue structures, and a case study on chiropractic management of whiplash patients. For his masters thesis, Dr. Anthony researched the effects of various weight cutting routines on performance of male high school wrestlers.

Dr. Anthony has a unique backround that allows him to integrate the latest research in clinical neuroscience with the neuromusculoskeletal (nerves, muscles, and bones) aspect of traditional chiropracic.   Dr. Anthony has extensive post graduate training in clinical neurology and vestibular rehabilitation. Dr. Anthony is currently working on his thesis for his second Master’s degree, a Masters in Neuroscience.  Dr. Anthony is eligible to sit for the national board exam given by the American Board of Chiropractic Neurology. Upon passing the neurology board, Dr. Anthony will be distinguished as a board certified chiropractic neurologist. 

Dr. Anthony specializes in the neurological application of  modalities to make positive changes in the nervous system, including: chiropractic adjustments of the axial and appendicular skeleton (spine and extremities), cognitive exercises, visual and auditory stimulation, caloric stimulation of the vestibular system, temporal sequencing exercises, vestibulo-ocular and balance exercises, eye tracking exercises, and eye light therapy.

About Dr. Nicole Distano

Nicole DistanoDr. Nicole has extensive  post graduate education, through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, on the management pregnant/pediatric patients. Dr. Nicole is certified in the Webster technique, a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that facilitates biomechanical balance in pelvic structures, muscles and ligaments. This technique has been shown to reduce the effects of intrauterine constraint, allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for birth. In addition, Dr. Nicole regularly attends seminars on Perinatal and postnatal care.  Dr. Nicole is currently persuing a Diplomate in chiropractic pediatrics.

As a senior chiropractic intern, Dr. Nicole researched effects of breast feeding on the immune system of newborns and conducted a case study on the effects of chiropractic on symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis. For her Masters thesis, Dr. Nicole researched hormones effecting ligament laxity of the medial collateral ligament in female high school soccer players.

In The Community

imgp0093.JPGBesides hosting community events such as spinal hygiene workshops, giving presentations on a variety of health topics, and providing scoliosis screenings for local schools, Dr. Nicole and Dr. Anthony particularly enjoy working closely with the Kearny High School wrestling team.

of50505443.jpgDr. Anthony is a volunteer wrestling coach. Along with Rose Camuto, the high school athletic trainer, both Dr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole provide injury prevention and injury management to the wrestlers. Dr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole have also volunteered their services at other sporting events such as recreational football, professional submission wrestling, professional tennis tournaments, as well as other high school/recreational wrestling tournaments. Dr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole are executive board memers for the Kearny High School wrestling club.

Certifications

Dr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole are certified in diagnostic imaging to perform and interpret radiographic examinations of the spine and extremities. Both have successfully completed parts I-IV of the national board examination and are board certified by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and New Jersey Board of Chiropractic Examiners to practice chiropractic in New Jersey.

In addition, they are board certified in Physiological Therapeutics. Both Dr. Anthony and Dr. Nicole are certified in first aid and CPR, are Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioners, and are eligible to sit for the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician exam.

Associations

Dr. Nicole and Dr. Anthony are currently members of the Association for New Jersey Chiropractors, Association of New Jersey Chiropractors Sports Council, and the Kinesio Taping Association. Dr. Nicole is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
